EQUIPMENT SUPPORT TEAM ENGINEER

Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases and chemicals, has an immediate opening for a EQUIPMENT SUPPORT TEAM ENGINEER at our Corporate Headquarters in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

Purpose: This engineer provides a broad range of technical support to the Customer Engineering Equipment Support Team (EST) and Field Maintenance personnel to ensure compliance with safety, technical, and work process standards. The EST provides centralized technical, administration, and call-center maintenance support for all customer engineering assets for the North America merchant gases business.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• EST Operating Service Center Project Management including successfully integrating new plants, developing and providing technical training for new technologies and/or work processes coming in to the Center, and providing technical support for the EST OSC portal and plant APSharesites.
• Safety Relief Device Technical Support for both the [1] Maintenance Bulletin 08.32 Atmospheric SRV Change-out and [2] Morton Safety De-rating/Auxiliary PBU Programs. Responsibilities include responding to calls from the field, performing the necessary calculations using CAPP software for selecting the appropriate safeties for tanks and tubes as well as de-rating a tank system with existing Morton safeties to a single set of SRV’s.
• Safety Relief Valve (SRV) Management for Tanks and Hydril Tube Assembles to achieve Customer Engineering’s North American contribution to the global FY12 KPI goal for zero overdue SRV’s. Scope includes evaluating the work orders to verify those which meet the eMOC extension criteria defined in EST Internal Procedure EI.60, issuing any corresponding eMOCs, and managing these eMOCs to ensure they do not exceed the 90-day threshold.
• Tank Painting Program Management by creating the annual forecast of tanks and hydril tubes which require painting, working with Purchasing to biannually competitively bid the US and Canada scope by providing the technical, scope-of-work, and safety specifications. Scope includes managing incoming tank painting requests; facilitating communications between the painting contractor, contractor, and AP Central Sales team; ensuring completed Safety Work Permits have been issued for each site where the painting is performed; and verifying accuracy of the invoices.
• Providing technical support to the field by troubleshooting field system problems through accessing customer files through Vantage, understanding P&ID’s, and processes.
• Specifying substitute pressure or pneumatic components for items on systems which are now obsolete. This would including identifying a vendor and part number in addition to generating and managing the eMOC required to implement the change.
• Overall responsibility for Customer Engineering maintenance bulletins including issuing new bulletins and the corresponding eMOCs, ensuring the library is current, and serving as key contact for questions/clarifications.
• Providing SWIFT support when the SWIFT Champion is unavailable due to vacations, emergencies, etc.
• Recommending solutions to streamline work processes.
• Identifying and executing productivity ideas and best practices to keep operating costs down.

DIMENSIONS:
• Scope of Support: Over 8000 customers, 5000+ AP cryogenic liquid and bulk gas systems, and 93 maintenance technicians and area maintenance managers. Installed capital is >$500MM. Annual maintenance spending is >17MM.
• Geography: Located in the Allentown headquarters and supports United States and Canada.
• Products: Gaseous and liquid nitrogen, oxygen, argon, hydrogen, helium, carbon monoxide, and carbon dioxide.
• Equipment and Process Technologies: Cryogenic and gaseous storage, vaporization, pumping and compression systems, PSA/membrane nitrogen generators, hydrogen fueling systems, and the EST Operating Service Center.
• Revenue Generation: $75,000 per month.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
1. Technical degree (chemical engineering or mechanical engineering preferred).
2. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills to interact with various disciplines across Customer Engineering.
3. Must be a self-starter who takes initiative in learning and implementing new methods, concepts and/or technologies.
4. Strong technical capabilities including an understanding of the process technologies employed in Customer Engineering.
5. Experience with and knowledge of Environmental, Health and Safety Standards with a demonstrated commitment to Safety.
