About the CryoMachinery Department:
Over the past 69 years, Air Products has designed and manufactured both standard and custom precision-engineered cryogenic and warm gas centrifugal turbomachinery used for refrigeration and power recovery in air separation, natural gas production, and other related market segments. Existing designs range from 2 kW to 12 MW, up to 97 barg, -268 C to + 260 C, and speeds up to 100,000 rpm. Standard products include compressor loaded turbo-expanders, generator-loaded power recovery expanders, and low-cost dissipative expanders. Air Products also offers global aftermarket support including on-site service, spares, repairs, and upgrades.
Position Description:
The Procurement Specialist is accountable for operational procurement and sourcing strategies for all materials and services required to supply precision-engineered turbomachinery to internal and external customers.
Responsibilities:
The Procurement Specialist interfaces and works with engineering, design, scheduling, manufacturing, and suppliers to ensure customer expectations are met. Team members, customers, and suppliers are global. The work environment is dynamic with a broad mix of commercial and technical challenges. There is a strong continuous improvement focus to the role ideal for candidates looking to make a direct impact to the competitiveness of Air Products turbomachinery offerings.
Detailed Responsibilities:
• Lead procurement of all material and services for CMD
- Castings
- Complicated machined parts
- High value services
- Lubrication systems
- High-speed, custom-designed gearboxes
- Bearings
• Single point of contact with designated suppliers for commercial issues (past due invoices, etc)
• Act as technical liaison between CMD engineers and suppliers
• Provide guidance (cost and lead time info) to PDE staff for sales estimates
• Lead supplier feedback process for delivery and quality metrics
• Drive Continuous Improvement with suppliers
• Identify, qualify and lead development of new sources as required
• Support emergency needs as required
• Represent Air Products and CryoMachinery in a positive, competent and professional manner to our suppliers
• Provide necessary price and delivery information to project managers to allow them to properly manage their projects
• Prepare Requests for Quotation and solicit competitive bids from qualified sources
• Prepare Tabulation of bids for management approval
• Primary functional support for two (2) Sourcing Specialists
• Purchase order processing as a buyer in SAP
• Owner of some Global Supply agreements
• Cross training with buying team on different commodity groups
• Order administration, problem resolution, supplier complaints, etc.
• Discrepancy resolution for purchase order payments
• Preliminary contractor/supplier qualification
• Multi-tasking in a fast paced environment, incumbent manages multiple, competing priorities
• Must be effective at negotiating, which is done on a daily basis both with suppliers and internal APCI clients.
Qualifications/Requirements:
• BS/BA Degree, Engineering degree preferred
• Technical background or experience with strong mechanical aptitude, ability to read engineering drawings and specifications
• Must understand what is being purchased, have knowledge of or be able to learn manufacturing methods/technologies and critically analyze vendor capabilities
• Experience with SAP, knowledge/understanding of MRP/ERP systems, sourcing/procurement work processes
• Competency in using the Microsoft Office Suite of products
• Travel required to suppliers, plants, and customers
• Strong desire and demonstrated ability to quickly learn technical concepts
• Self motivated contributor with the ability to work independently through managed objectives and be comfortable with adjusting priorities
• Must be able to work in a dynamic, small team environment
• Virtual meetings and working outside of own time zone is expected in this role
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Strong sense of urgency, personal ownership of position, and willing to go beyond job boundaries
• Able to facilitate technical and commercial solutions and provide leadership to arrive at win-win situations
