Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases and chemicals, has an immediate opening for a CONSTRUCTION ESTIMATOR at our Corporate Headquarters in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
POSITION SUMMARY: The Construction Estimator is accountable for all aspects of developing construction scope and resultant cost, for most phases of estimating. The activities include: identifying construction related risk, reviewing the work of outside A&E Firms who prepare construction scope and costs for Air Products, participating in negotiations with construction contractors during execution phase, and developing construction productivity. All estimators participate in the maintenance of various cost databases for construction disciplines on a global basis. The work is performed to support all divisions of Air Products throughout the world.
CRITICAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The focus of all Construction Estimators is the development of construction scope and resultant costs.
The major responsibilities include: •Prepare detailed take off construction estimates, for all disciplines using the appropriate Construction Estimating method and tools.
•Work closely with the Project Development Engineer, Construction Engineering, Procurement and Project Engineering in developing construction scope, costs and risks.
•Develop conceptual estimates from plot plan, single line, and flow sheet.
•Contribute to construction labor surveys, by interfacing with construction contractors, Customers, etc.
•Review the construction estimating activities and results completed by outside engineering firms for all phases of a project, from initial bids to contract addendums.
•Ensure that the construction cost estimates used for funding requests are of sufficient accuracy to support our project execution budget performance targets.
•Understand and communicate construction environment issues that impact our projects and overall business.
•Collect data and maintain measurements to ensure continuous improvement in the speed and accuracy of developing construction scope, costs and risks.
•Create/modify assemblies using the appropriate estimating system/program to speed up the work process.
•Monitor changes in scope during projects and support the Project Engineer’s forecasting efforts.
•Develop a team environment that facilitates creativity, innovation, continuous improvement and value engineering. Specifically, this is done through effective communication and leadership and by creating a safe and positive work environment—recognizing all team members’ contributions and involvement in critical decisions.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: •Electrical design, construction supervision, and/or estimating experience is a must •Skill to analyze what is missing from the scope is a must •Experience with the following tools is a plus: Accubid, Timberline, QuickPen, MS Access •Civil, structural, piping design, construction supervision, and/or estimating experience is a plus.
QUALIFICATIONS: - High School with an Associate Degree preferred - 5+ years in Construction Estimating related position—includes estimating, design, and construction supervision.
