LAB TECHNICIAN

Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (NYSE:APD), a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases and chemicals, is seeking a high energy, self-starter for a Lab Technician position at its Wichita, KS facility.

This position will start on days (M-F, 8 hr days), but future plans will include providing around the clock coverage. It is planned that within 1-2 years the position will move to a rotating shift structure.

The Technician will primarily perform routine analytical tests, instrument preventative maintenance, calibration, and standardization per written analytical procedures and work instructions, and assist in problem solving efforts for safety, health, environmental, and product quality improvements under general guidelines and supervision of area Chemist.

Job Responsibilities:

Analytical - Ability to provide routine analytical support to operating/ production units for product quality, environmental, and safety concerns. Role includes analysis of samples, report of result, and connection between result to operation.

Instrument Support - Operate and maintain analytical equipment to ensure accurate analytical results. This preventative maintenance tasks and calibrations on equipment such as GC's spectrophotometers, autotitrators, and misc. analyzers.

Quality Assurance - Adhere to and support the ISO 9001 Quality Assurance program at the site.

Computer Technology - Ability to use hardware and software packages effectively to enhance productivity. This includes SAP, WinLims, electronic forms and manuals, and SQC software.

Planning/Organizing - Ability to structure work activities and effectively establish priorities and action plans.

Problem Solving/Prevention - Ability to recognize existing problems, foresee potential problems, and implement measures to eliminate or reduce the probability of occurrence and/or minimize their impact.

Qualifications/Requirements:

- BS degree with major or minor in chemistry, or related science field and prior laboratory experience is required.

- Minimum of 2 years experience working in an industrial lab setting, or equivalent, is required.
Preference will be given to those candidates who have demonstrated strong relationship between analytical results and plant operations. Proficiency in root cause analysis and 6S (or equivalent) strongly desired.

- Must be a self starter, willing to perform in an area of uncertainty, skilled problem solver, and a have a strong passion for continuous improvement. Successful candidate will show potential to advance into supervision with 2-3 years.
