Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases and chemicals, has an immediate opening for a HYDROGEN PLANT PROCESS MANAGER at our Corporate Headquarters in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
This role will support Prism Hydrogen Generator (PHG) plants located worldwide. These small Steam Methane Reformers (SMR’s) plants produce 100-250 Nm3/hr H2, in an on-site arrangement. Future products will go up to 1000Nm3/hr capacity with product development currently ongoing.
This role will provide operating leadership and expertise to support the PHG business development and operational activities worldwide and will participate in safety and technical reviews and feedback associated with the technology. The role will manage the growing technical support team that looks after these plants.
The successful candidate will work closely with the operating staff at the plants, operations technical support personnel and engineering resources globally, as well as the Generated Gases commercial & product teams.
Responsibilities:
1. Will be the Global Operations Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for the PHG product line. Interface with the Product, Engineering and Operating teams to provide feedback to improve the product line and achieve the operational targets.
2. Managing the team of Operations process engineers and technicians that provide technical support to the PHG fleet. Provide process engineering support for the installed on-site PHG H2 plants in the Americas, Europe and Asia.
3. Monitoring plant performance, gathering data and working with the operating teams at each site to track, understand and improve plant performance.
4. Developing and implementing productivity & improvement projects for improving reliability, efficiency and safety at these plants.
5. Acting as an information conduit between the plant locations, the Operations and Engineering teams across the regions, working closely with the Global Product Manager and Global Product Owner.
6. Supporting and participating in outage activities at each plant such as catalyst loading, control system changes and other improvements.
7. Supporting and participating in start-up and commissioning activities at new plants, including operator training and familiarization.
8. Providing support to the Commercial team, including attending customer meetings when requested.
Minimum Qualifications:
- B.S. degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
- 6 or more years experience in either Operations or Engineering in a technical support or design role.
Other Qualifications:
- Prior experience at an operating plant or in the HYCO PST or HYCO PPE teams would be beneficial
- Preference for previous experience in a plant operating environment
- Ability to work in teams, interacting with plant managers/operators, engineers and the commercial teams
- Desire to make a measurable positive impact to plant performance, productivity and AP’s profitability.
The preferred location is Allentown. The job will include approximately 30% travel which includes international travel.
