ACCOUNT MANAGER

Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases and chemicals, has an immediate opening for a ACCOUNT MANAGER at our Cleveland, OH facility.

DESCRIPTION:

This position will focus and grow Americas Specialty Additives sales in the Eastern Midwest region of the United States (primarily Ohio and Michigan) and will be the first line of commercial and technical support for customers in this region. Primary markets served are water-based coatings (architectural, automotive, specialty and industrial), inks and adhesives but also include industrial specialty markets such as metal working fluids, agricultural chemicals and UV/energy curable additives. The account manager will be responsible for growing the business at direct accounts, identifying new opportunities for existing and new products and executing the objectives of the business area. The individual will also be responsible for managing a network of sales distributors in the region. The position will work with the marketing, technology, supply chain and customer service functions in Americas Spec Adds and will also interface with the other account managers in the business.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1) Defend and Grow Volume, Revenue and Margin of Direct Accounts in Region

Increase volume, revenue and margin targets as defined by the Americas Spec Adds business goals at a discreet set of direct accounts in the region. Between 35 and 50 accounts. The position is tasked with calling on both technology and commercial decision makers at the direct accounts.

2) Defend and Grow Volume, Revenue and Margin of Distributor in Region

Increase volume, revenue and margin targets as defined by the Americas Spec Adds business goals at regional distributor. The position is tasked with working with the distributor to defend and grow business at literally hundreds of smaller accounts in the region. Joint travel with the distributor is required in order to meet this objective, in addition to providing technical support and new product training.

3) Activities Necessary to Defend and Grow Volume, Revenue and Margin

• Determine whom the key commercial and technical decision makers are at accounts. As such, maintain and strengthen customer relationships including contacts in purchasing, technical, operations and marketing and grow the region per business requirements.
• Implement the strategy and objectives of the Americas Spec Adds business with a strong focus on increasing sales of new products.
• Negotiate and execute multi-year supply agreements that meet the commercial requirements of Air Products while also offering competitive advantage to our customers.
• Work with marketing, technology, supply chain customer service resources to establish priorities for new product/new account/new market opportunities.
• Work with these same resources to resolve commercial and technical customer issues.
• Communicate market intelligence and account updates for customers and markets through timely submission of contact reports, new business opportunities, e-mails, voicemails, follow-up letters and other means of communication as necessary.
• Develop, maintain and manage account plans for key accounts and engage required/related resources.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• The candidate should have at least 5 - 10 years experience in a commercial or technical service role or other roles that have required frequent contact with customers within the chemical industry.
• Knowledge of the coatings, inks and adhesives industries – both the markets and the customers and their decision makers in these markets.
• Customer service or customer facing experience.
• The candidate should have strong relationship building and communication skills, both oral and written, in order to be effective in both internal and external environments.
• A technical degree is preferred.
