Position Summary:
A senior level project engineer in the Wichita, KS. Central U.S. region is responsible for executing a wide variety of small/medium projects in APCI gas, electronics, and chemicals operating facilities located in the Central U.S. region including but not limited to Wichita, KS, Milton, WI, various Oklahoma plants, and Calvert City, KY.
The Plant Project Organization (PPO) maintains a multi skilled team to implement EH&S, productivity and reliability projects rapidly and in coordination with the operating facilities. Excellent communication and leadership skills along with a broad knowledge of engineering disciplines are required when dealing with a project load that spans several sites. This position has direct accountability to the Local PPO Lead located at the Wichita PMD facility, which serves as the PPO hub for the Central US.
This particular position will be located at the Air Products Wichita, KS facility and will be primarily assigned to lead projects in the Wichita, KS. PMD plant and other facilities in and around the Central US geographical area. Depending on workloads, however, this person may also be required to manage projects elsewhere in the U.S.
Dimensions:
• Geographical Scope: Central U.S with higher concentration in Wichita, KS and Milton WI. • Travel: Position requires up to 30% - 40% travel, from Wichita, most requiring overnight trips to outlying plants.
Principal Accountabilities:
• Lead specific capital projects and manage all engineering and design resources associated with those projects. • Develop scope for PPO executed debottlenecking, process safety, or infrastructure projects. • Develop estimates, funding documents, schedule, and ongoing forecasts for plant executed projects within SAP. • Ensure all projects receive adequate process hazard reviews and ORI’s and that all recommendations are completed in a timely manner. • Ensure inherent process safety is adhered to on all project designs. • Manage project safety. • Maintain projects on budget and schedule. • Ensure all projects meet the operability needs of the customer. • Uphold and communicate high standards of housekeeping in assigned areas and on all job sites. Conduct frequent formal housekeeping inspections of plant areas.
Qualifications/Requirements:
• 10-15 years experience in maintenance and/or engineering disciplines • Technical degree (chemical engineering or mechanical engineering preferred) • Manufacturing plant operations, maintenance, and capital projects experience • Must be self-starter, and have project management experience to be able to work independently and coordinate efforts among support and leadership resources located remote from the Milton, WI. Or other outlying facility (e.g. designers and instrument engineering support located in Wichita office) • Role model within Project Engineering function: • High ethical standards - unwilling to compromise on worker safety and regulatory compliance requirements • Organizational credibility - able to influence business area, PPE engineering and manufacturing managers in decision making process • Basic understanding of the process technologies employed in PPO & PST operations • Strong organizational and planning skills • Strong interpersonal skills • Strong leadership abilities
