Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases and chemicals, has an immediate opening for a SENIOR PRINCIPAL PRESSURE SYSTEMS ENGINEER at our Corporate Headquarters in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
This position will be responsible for providing pressure systems and mechanical integrity support of facilities owned and operated by Air Products in North America. The candidate will interface with the maintenance organization, Global Engineering Organization, Metallurgy, and 3rd party engineering firms to address long term fixed equipment engineering challenges. The candidate will work with a variety of technologies including Air Separation, HyCO, and Chemicals facilities. Travel to the plant sites will be required (30%+/-).
Examples of specific activities will include:
• Conduct Fitness For Service evaluations for vessel, tank, and piping inspection results
• Evaluate cost of inspection versus equipment maintenance to develop end of life assessment strategies for various assets
• Perform engineering design calculations and/or work with the Global Engineering Organization and 3rd party engineering contractors to implement design changes to pressure vessels and piping to address issues
• Primary engineering contact for PSA vessel inspection program
o Create inspection requirement packages
o Support field inspection activity – assure that inspections are properly carried out and reports are complete. Coach and develop newly qualified inspectors as necessary
o Quantitative assessment of future inspection periods for each weld seam using inspection results
• Participate in pressure systems failure investigations. Implement recommendations as required
• Develop a high level of expertise in existing and developing technologies associated with the inspection of pressurized systems including for example: ACFM, Shear wave, Tele-test, Eddy Current (heat exchanger and furnace tubes)
• Travel.
Qualifications:
• Mechanical Engineering degree (BS) required
• Experience with design and/or maintenance of vessels, tanks and piping
• Working knowledge and understanding of national statutory / regulatory inspection requirements
• Knowledge of inspection/test procedures used to assess vessels, tanks, piping, and heat exchangers
• Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively at all levels within the organization.
• Desirable to have ASME / API Pressure Vessel, Piping inspection knowledge but not required.
