Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases and chemicals, has an immediate opening for a HYDROGEN ENERGY SOLUTIONS (HES) OPERATIONS ENGINEER at our Corporate Headquarters in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
The H2 Fuel Station product lines are at a critical stage of introducing new technology to a highly demanding market. Hydrogen Fuel Stations are complex systems that have a direct, almost retail, customer interface at the dispenser. An Engineering/Operations Support person is required to help manage the successful roll-out of new stations and the successful and safe operation of existing stations. Automobile Companies and Material Handling Warehouses are the bulk of our customers.
Position Summary: This position is responsible for Global Operations support of Hydrogen Fuel Stations. This person will provide day to day technical direction and support to Fueler Technicians and work with them to support startup activities and troubleshooting of existing systems.
Principal Job Responsibilities: - Safety Responsible for safe operation of all stations Participate in ORI’s, HAZOP’s, & Safety Incident Investigations Responsible to ensure e-MOC process is followed.
- Process Control Engineering Process Control System ownership of all projects In-depth knowledge of local and APCI Electrical Engineering Practices On-site System Start-up and Commissioning of Process Control Equipment Electrical Design and site review of local codes Design Optimization.
- Troubleshooting of Electrical and Mechanical problems Supporting Customers Supporting 12 North America based Fueler Technicians Supporting Europe & Asia as required.
- Tracking Reliability of Equipment Root Cause Analysis of Equipment Failures Tracking Mean Time Between Failure Identifying Areas for Equipment Improvement.
- Tracking and Controlling Maintenance Expense Review Routine Preventive Maintenance Tasks Reduce number of trips to site Support Temporary Hydrogen Fueling Requirements Coordination of Equipment Delivery.
- Communication Build relationships with each customer Provide Fuel Station Training Gather and Provide Fuel Data to customers and Product Team as required Complete required reports for GO/GEO and Business Area Keep standards, manuals and procedures current.
Skills: • Good organizational & interpersonal skills • Ability to work independently and lead people • Capable and effective communicator • Ability to build good rapport and working relationships with customers • Professionally represent Air Products in front of customers and the public • Capable of working well within the larger Hydrogen Energy Systems Team • “Hands-on” capability • Good technical skills, particularly in instrumentation/controls • PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) program development and troubleshooting • Over the phone, and field control system troubleshooting • Comfortable with new technology.
Experience: - Should have at least 5-10 years experience in industrial gas equipment support roles - The position is technical in nature and requires operating experience with small High Pressure compression equipment and controls - An Engineering Degree is preferred, but not required - Instrumentation and controls experience is required - Previous experience with hydrogen is helpful.
Travel: Travel is expected to be frequent (>50%) within the United States. Occasional travel to other fuel stations around the world is expected.
