FLEET PROJECT MANAGER

Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases and chemicals, has an immediate opening for a FLEET PROJECT MANAGER at our Corporate Headquarters in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The incumbent is responsible for planning and executing fleet asset project management activities for North America. The scope of fleet includes bulk fleets (MEGCs, tube trailers and portable tanks) and cylinder fleets (Y and smaller size) in support of the Electronics Materials (EM) operations. This position will work closely with the Fleet Technical Manager (who is responsible for Engineering Design and Regulatory Compliance) and resources within the Global Supply Chain team. This position will report to the Global Fleet Asset & Services Manager.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

The responsibilities of this position will have broad impact on the Electronics supply chain process, including global processes aimed at optimizing the fleets and meeting business demands. The primary responsibilities include:

• Accountable for global process for the management of container assets that supply EM products to Electronics customers. This process includes short- and long-term strategies for adding, converting service or retiring the containers in the fleet.
• Accountable for capital funding management required to purchase new fleet. This includes strategic planning and tactical execution.
• Accountable for project management required to purchase new fleet. This includes managing parallel activities involving numerous vendors contributing to the build of a single fleet object.
• Support the Asia fleet asset management team when North American and European based suppliers are utilized to purchase new bulk fleet.
• Work with Fleet Technical Team to qualify new suppliers for container fleet builds and associated parts.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Manage global capital budget for bulk fleet, Y and small cylinder container types. This includes budgeting, forecasting and management of EARs for new assets.
• Manage projects to build and buy fleet objects. This includes working with the business area to create EARs, negotiate pricing and build schedule with suppliers and visiting the suppliers during the build process to ensure containers are built to cost and schedule commitments. This also includes working with suppliers and other Air Products resources to ensure parts required to complete builds are provided.
• Provide periodic updates on status of build projects to GSC and business teams.
• Provide quarterly update to Finance on capital spends throughout the fiscal year.
• Work with the product management team to develop capital spend forecasts as part of the annual P&C/Operating Plan process.
• Manage fleet addition, service change and retirement processes for bulk fleet, Y and small cylinders.
• Develop and manage global work processes related to fleet asset management. This includes utilizing SAP to the greatest extent possible.
• Support business process and IT software implementations as it relates to the asset management of the container fleets.
• Support Continuous Improvement activities related to the fleet that reduce costs and improve container utilization.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A candidate for this position should possess:

• Undergraduate degree in Engineering field; Mechanical Engineer is preferred but not a requirement.
• Minimum of five years experience in project management and execution. This could be in one or more of the following areas: engineering, equipment builds, product management, supply chain / logistics or equivalent.
• Knowledge and experience in project management and execution principles and practices.
• Knowledge and experience of cost estimating and cost management.
• Knowledge and experience of work process development and management.
• Working knowledge of fleet, valves, piping and components is desired.
• Working knowledge of SAP / ERP is desired.
• APICS CPIM (Certification in Production and Inventory Management) is a plus.
• Ability to travel.

In addition, the candidate must demonstrate good verbal and written communications skills. The candidate must have the ability to develop, promote and leverage relationships with personnel in North America, Asia and European regions within the Electronic division to ensure global implementation and use of fleet asset management work processes and procedures. The candidate must have strong influencing skills to be able to lead the efforts of groups outside their immediate span of control. International travel is a requirement.
