Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases and chemicals, has an immediate opening for a MECHANICAL ENGINEER- GAS/LIQUID DISTRIBUTION at Corporate Headquarters in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
DESCRIPTION The Electronics Division manufactures and distributes industrial specialty gases and liquids for high technology industries. Products are manufactured and shipped to global markets in a variety of specialized containers.
The successful candidate will work as a member of the Electronics Fleet Team within the Global Supply Chain organization to provide the engineering needed to get product to market. He or she will be responsible for a broad range of fast-paced projects and technical challenges in a global work environment. Safety, low cost, and customer satisfaction are key success factors for this position.
The engineer will be responsible for the design, specification and manufacture of: o Steel and aluminum containers, drums, and cylinders o High-pressure (2200 psig) DOT trailer-mounted long steel tubes o ASME-Code pressure vessels o Associated piping systems for vessel filling and customer delivery
The engineer also will: o Oversee the design, operation, maintenance, and repair of valves in Electronics-grade service o Prepare and maintain procedures for filling, emptying, and interior/exterior surface preparation of vessels and piping systems. o Select materials for the construction of equipment and ensure compatibility of wetted surfaces with specialty gases and liquids. o Develop, inspect, and qualify equipment manufacturers. o Design and develop new vessels, piping systems, and devices. o Prepare procedures for testing, cleaning, operating, repairing, and transporting equipment.
As a member of the Electronics Fleet Team, the engineer will: o Work with business managers to understand market needs and find technical solutions to satisfy those needs. o Develop knowledge of U.S. and international codes and regulations as they apply to the solutions of technical problems in the container fleet. o Maintain engineering specifications, drawings, standards, and other documents. o Participate as a member of a global team to provide engineering solutions in the Americas, Europe, and Asia. o Work in productivity teams to optimize performance and reduce costs.
QUALIFICATIONS Seeking candidates with: o Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline o 3 years experience in the design, manufacture, operation, or maintenance of pressure vessels or piping systems o Strong problem-solving, communications, and teamwork skills
