DIRECTOR, TECHNICAL ACCOUNTING POLICY AND EXTERNAL REPORTING

Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases and chemicals, has an immediate opening for a DIRECTOR OF TECHNICAL ACCOUNTING POLICY AND EXTERNAL REPORTING at our Corporate Headquarters in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

This critical leadership position interacts with senior management to be the authority on technical accounting matters involving numerous large transactions that are characteristic to this capital intense business. This is a highly visible position within the company and is responsible for developing business and functional relationships globally with particular focus on interactions with personnel in each of our regional headquarters in North America, Asia and Europe. We are seeking a director with strong managerial and leadership skills to develop and manage a technical accounting and external reporting team responsible for the preparation, review and filing of all financial statements.
Specific areas of responsibility will include:
• Team Leadership.
- Demonstrate a strong sense of teamwork by providing support to fellow members of the senior finance team.
- Manage and develop a broad technical accounting staff responsible for research, reporting, derivative accounting, pension accounting, etc.
- Make sound recommendations to senior management and demonstrate effective decision making skills for the technical accounting staff.
• External Reporting.
- Responsible for preparation of 10Q, 10K, responses to SEC comment letters and all other external financial reports.
- Support accounting communications to the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors.
• Monitoring, Influencing and Implementing New Accounting Standards.
- Review, identify and communicate to management the impacts of new and proposed accounting standards.
- Prepare response letters to the FASB and SEC.
- Stay current on accounting developments such as IFRS.
- Conduct planning and implementation of new standards.
• Process Oversight and Improvement. Actively engage in complex accounting processes and decisions for topics including:
- Large business transactions
- Derivatives
- Pension and post-retirement plans
- Tax
- Cash flow statement
- Acquisitions and divestitures
• Provide Accounting Guidance to Senior Management and Business Areas.
- Interact with business areas and management to understand the accounting impacts of business transactions and decisions.
- Lead important documentation of the company’s application of accounting principles as they relate to specific transactions.
- Develop important influence through interactions with senior management across both Finance and Business Area management.
- Clearly communicate complex accounting issues to a wide breadth of audiences.
The individual should exhibit strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work effectively with employees at all levels, senior management, and external auditors. The incumbent should also have prior supervisory skills, independent initiative, planning and organizing skills and should have a proven ability to lead and develop teams and to solve complex problems.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• An undergraduate degree in accounting is required; MBA preferred
• CPA with Big 4 experience required
• Senior audit manager at Big 4 firm preferred
• 15+ years of progressive experience in accounting
• Managerial experience
• Very strong US GAAP Accounting Theory and Application Skills are required.
