Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases and chemicals, has an immediate opening for a FLEET ENGINEER - CONTAINERS / CYLINDERS at our Corporate Headquarters in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Electronics Division manufactures and distributes high purity gases and liquids, known as Electronic Materials (EM) for semiconductor, photovoltaic and LED device manufacturers. These EM products are manufactured, filled and shipped to global markets in a variety of specialized packages including small low pressure containers and compressed gas cylinders. This fleet is required to operate safely and reliably within a growing regulatory environment.
This position will work as a member of the Global Fleet Technical Team within the Supply Chain organization reporting to the Global Fleet Technical Manager. The incumbent’s primary scope will include the small low pressure vessel and compressed gas cylinder fleets. The incumbent will have technical responsibilities for these fleets including design and build, supplier management and manufacturing support as the container progresses through its life cycle.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
• Product Development: Responsible for packaging product development and sustaining product management. In scope are low pressure containers, compressed gas cylinders, valves, caps, closures, coatings and handling equipment. • Cylinder Technical Authority: Responsible for supplier technical development, regulatory compliance (U.S. and non-U.S.), selection of material of construction, internal treatment and finishing processes, external surface preparation and painting, and supplier management. • Manufacturing Liaison: Interface with manufacturing globally on low pressure container and compressed gas cylinder issues. Work with the manufacturing plant personnel to transfer best practices. Provide technical support to manufacturing plants in the areas of filling, cylinder testing and maintenance, internal cylinder treatment and post fill preparation. • Cylinder Filling Technical Authority: Technical authority on filling all low pressure containers and compressed gas cylinders. • Supplier Management: Responsible for supplier technical management including container and component suppliers and assembly suppliers. This includes supplier audit and approval to the Approved Supplier List (ASL). • Center of Excellence: Provide technical consultancy to the company on low pressure containers and compressed gas cylinder issues. Support product management on development of attributes. Maintain suite of Packaging, maintenance and operation procedures related to EM gas packages.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
The following principal accountabilities apply to the low pressure container and compressed gas cylinder fleets: 1. Responsible for the creation of engineering drawings, part selection, materials of construction to maintain product quality. This includes updating, managing and documenting the changes using the MOC process. 2. Develop knowledge and understanding of packaging and transportation codes. 3. Provide technical direction for the inspection, repair, testing, and maintenance. 4. Responsible globally for safe filling practices and fill ratio compliance at AP owned and molecule supplier fill plants. 5. Responsible for US Bridge law compliance for the bulk fleet. 6. Support CI activities and productivity projects that improve design, inspection, repair and maintenance. 7. Responsible for managing and maintaining the packaging procedures. This includes all procedures that impact the overall quality, safety and technical performance of these fleets. 8. Provide fleet related technical and engineering support to the Electronics Manufacturing group. 9. Be the technical resource for quality complaint closure and prevention. 10. Manage Global Container team.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
The candidate for this position should hold an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering or similar and have at least five years experience in supply chain or logistics, manufacturing, Quality, Megasys or product management. Knowledge and experience with EM containers and valves is required. Knowledge of EM container work processes and project management skills is required. Knowledge of regulations and laws pertaining to Electronic Material product containers is preferred.
The candidate must demonstrate good verbal and written communications skills. The candidate must have strong problem solving skills. The incumbent must have strong teamwork and influencing skills to be able to lead the efforts of groups outside their immediate work team. Domestic and some international travel is a requirement.
