Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases and chemicals, has an immediate opening for a Chemist in our Allentown, Pa. headquarters.
This position will be part of the Global Technology Centers and support a wide range of chemistry related programs and projects. The successful candidate will work with a cross-functional research team developing new synthetic routes to compositions of interest to various business areas including TGEE, Electronics, Merchant and PMD. Job responsibilities include hands-on experimentation of laboratory scale processes, coordination of analytical testing, and optimization of processes. In addition, the candidate will have safety responsibility for laboratory operations, including participation and in some cases leading hazard reviews, maintaining laboratory notebooks, keeping chemical inventory up to date and maintain databases for composition / structure – property relationships.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

- A bachelor’s degree in chemistry is required; masters’ degree is a strong plus, along with 5 to 10 years industrial experience preferred.
- Candidate must be able to function independently with limited direction from supervisor.
-Candidate should have experience with various bench scale synthesis techniques including use of Schlenk or vacuum line, pressure reactors, or standard organic synthetic methods.
- Candidates with experience handling reactive or air sensitive materials are preferred. Experience with gas handling systems is a plus.
- Candidate must be capable of managing and safely running a laboratory with multiple projects.
- Candidate must have a strong awareness of and a good track record in safety.
- Candidate must be able to conduct experiments and compile results.
- Candidate will be required to maintain a notebook and other documentation of experimental work.
- Candidate must function well in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
