Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (NYSE:APD), a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases and chemicals, is seeking an experienced Project Engineer for its Port Arthur, TX facility.
Position Summary:
A project engineer in the Texas Gulf Coast region is responsible for executing a wide variety of small/medium projects in APCI gas, electronics, and chemicals operating facilities located in the Southeast Texas and Southwestern corner of Louisiana area. The Plant Project Organization (PPO) maintains a multi skilled team to implement EH&S, productivity and reliability projects rapidly and in coordination with the operating facilities. Excellent communication and leadership skills along with a broad knowledge of engineering disciplines are required when dealing with a project load that spans several sites. This position has direct accountability to the Local PPO Lead located at the Pasadena PUI facility, which serves as the PPO hub for the West Gulf Coast (WGC). This particular position will be located at the Air Products Port Arthur facility and will be primarily assigned to lead projects in the Port Arthur, Westlake LA, and other facilities including pipelines in and around that geographical area. Depending on workloads, however, this person may also manage projects elsewhere in the region or possibly further east into the Baton Rouge-New Orleans industrial corridor.
Dimensions:
• Geographical Scope: West Gulf Coast (Texas and Western LA) with higher concentration in Port Arthur and Westlake LA areas. • Number of Facilities: Approx: 7 manned gas, electronics, and chemicals manufacturing facilities along with numerous unmanned satellites. The majority of facilities are clustered in the Houston area, but a few are within a few hours drive and include Midlothian, and various SE Texas Pipeline facilities. Travel: Position requires approximately 30% - 40% travel, mostly day trips from Port Arthur, but some overnight trips required to outlying plants.
Principal Accountabilities:
• Lead assigned portion of capital program and manage all engineering and design resources. • Assist in the development of strategic plans to meet the infrastructure needs of plants. • Develop scope for PPO executed debottlenecking, process safety, or infrastructure projects. • Develop estimates, funding documents, schedule, and ongoing forecasts for plant executed projects within SAP. • Ensure all projects receive adequate process hazard reviews and ORI’s and that all recommendations are completed in a timely manner. • Ensure inherent process safety is adhered to on all project designs. • Manage project safety. • Maintain projects on budget and schedule. • Ensure all projects meet the operability needs of the customer. • Uphold and communicate high standards of housekeeping in assigned areas and on all job sites. Conduct frequent formal housekeeping inspections of plant areas.
Qualifications/Requirements:
• 7-12 years experience in maintenance and/or engineering disciplines • Technical degree (chemical engineering or mechanical engineering preferred) • Professional Engineer preferred • Manufacturing plant operations, maintenance, and capital projects experience • Must be self-starter, and have project management experience to be able to work independently and coordinate efforts among support and leadership resources located remote from the Port Arthur facility (e.g. designers and instrument engineering support located in Pasadena office) • Role model within Project Engineering function: • High ethical standards - unwilling to compromise on worker safety and regulatory compliance requirements • Organizational credibility - able to influence business area, engineering and manufacturing managers in decision making process • Basic understanding of the process technologies employed in PPO & PST operations • Strong organizational and planning skills • Strong interpersonal skills • Strong leadership abilities
