Req No. 1533BR Job Title Principal Process Safety Engineer Employment Status Full Time Employment Type Exempt Country United States Location US-PA-Allentown Organization US - Global Engineering Job Description and Qualifications Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases and chemicals, has an immediate opening for a Principal Process Safety Engineer at our Corporate Headquarters in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
This position is responsible for providing process safety support to the HyCO Product Supply Team (PST), which designs and engineers hydrogen, syngas, and carbon monoxide production plants and pipelines. The position reports directly to the HyCO Process Technology Lead, and functionally to the Global Manager of Process Safety.
Specific responsibilities include: • Performing process hazard reviews with the project team and with interfacing customers and suppliers • Performing building siting reviews and participating in facility layout reviews and Security Vulnerability Assessments (SVA’s) • Performing consequence modeling for potential gas dispersion, thermal radiation, and chemical and physical blast events • Preparing in-plant quantitative risk analyses for major process hazards using Layer Of Protection Analysis (LOPA) or fault tree tools • Preparing public risk analyses • Supporting compliance with applicable process safety regulations (e.g. OSHA Process Safety Management and EPA Risk Management Plan regulations for productions plants and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations for pipelines) • Participating in Operational Readiness Inspections (ORI’s) prior to plant commissioning and start-up • Supporting Management of Change (MOC) for operating facilities • Supporting global functional (training, tools, work process) improvement programs
The position offers a wide scope of technical challenges and provides the opportunity to take a leadership role in facilitating the execution of our key process safety requirements. The incumbent will routinely interact with the other process safety team members around the globe.
The successful candidate will have 10 plus years of foundational experience in disciplines such as process engineering, process systems, process controls, plant and reliability engineering. Previous process safety experience is a plus. Working knowledge of various industry standards is desirable. The position requires a BS in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering. Appropriate process safety training will be provided to the successful candidate.
